Founded in 2022 in Abidjan by a group of young activists passionate about social change, the association Espoir de Vie is gradually establishing itself as a pillar of solidarity in Ivory Coast. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Morel Gbeli, this organization tirelessly works to provide a glimmer of hope to the most disadvantaged individuals.
Guided by fundamental values of solidarity, compassion, and social justice, the association organizes several charitable events each year aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals across the country.
The “Helping Can Save” campaign: a concrete commitment
On August 31, 2024, Espoir de Vie successfully launched its flagship campaign titled “Helping Can Save,” an ambitious initiative focused on distributing essential supplies to several orphanages in the country.
This project, carried out in close collaboration with the association’s executive members, dedicated active members, and a team of volunteers, aimed to address the immediate needs of orphans in terms of health, education, and nutrition.
The campaign was the result of several months of preparation, involving resource mobilization, coordination with beneficiary institutions, and raising public awareness about the plight of vulnerable children. Fundraising efforts were organized, appealing to the generosity of citizens, local businesses, and international partners.
Context and motivation of the campaign
Despite its recent economic progress, Ivory Coast still faces numerous social challenges. Orphanages and rehabilitation centers are often underfunded and severely lack the resources needed to provide decent living conditions for the children they care for. Aware of this reality, the association Espoir de Vie has decided to take concrete action to improve the daily lives of these children and support the institutions that care for them.
Objectives of the “Helping can Save” campaign
In our context, the campaign aimed to:
- provide medical equipment: distributing first aid kits, care supplies, and essential medicines to improve the care of sick or injured children, address the lack of medical equipment, and respond to major health challenges.
- support education: delivering school supplies such as notebooks, pens, books, and uniforms, offering children the means to continue their schooling under better conditions and to envision a promising future.
- ensure food security: supplying basic foodstuffs to combat food insecurity and guarantee regular and nutritious meals for the children.
Beneficiaries of the action
The donations were specifically directed towards two institutions located in Bonoua, in the southeast of Ivory Coast:
- The PADRE Pio orphanage: This orphanage welcomes vulnerable children, including orphans or those abandoned, offering them a safe and loving environment as well as quality education.
- The Don Orion rehabilitation center: A specialized center providing care and medical support to children requiring special assistance, particularly those with physical or mental disabilities, working towards their social reintegration and autonomy.
Thanks to this campaign, more than 100 children received direct assistance. The materials distributed improved their daily lives and strengthened the services provided by the orphanages. The infrastructure was reinforced, the educational and medical staff were supported, and the children were able to partially regain their smiles.
Testimonials
According to Mr. Gbeli, president of the association, “Every gesture counts, and what we do today can truly change the lives of these children. Hope is the light that guides us through the darkness.” His words reflect the association’s deep commitment to the most vulnerable.
A lasting impact on the community
This initiative has a notable impact in a country where many children are housed and cared for in orphanages and rehabilitation centers. It highlights the importance of active solidarity and collective engagement to strengthen the social fabric and promote community development.
It also invites us to reflect on our mutual responsibility. Such actions demonstrate that civil society can play a crucial role in improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations. By mobilizing through solidarity projects, we can all contribute to the well-being of our communities.
Call to action: together for a better future
Espoir de Vie is not planning to stop here. The association is already preparing new campaigns and invites everyone to join this wave of solidarity. “We need the support of everyone to continue our mission. Every contribution, whether financial or material, makes a difference,” emphasizes Mr. Gbeli.
Those interested can join the association as volunteers, make donations, or simply spread the word. By uniting our efforts, we can amplify the impact of these actions and touch even more lives.
We are all invested in the future of our society. And as the name of this campaign clearly states: “Helping can Save.” Together, through small acts of solidarity, we can build a fairer and more humane future for all.
The “Helping can Save” initiative by the association Espoir de Vie is an inspiring example of what determination and solidarity can achieve. By providing valuable support to the orphanages in Bonoua, the association has not only improved the lives of many children but has also rekindled hope for a better future. It is essential that such actions are supported and encouraged. Each of us has the power to make a difference.
